About
I am a freelance non-fiction editor with a wealth of experience academia and the real world. On the academia side, I have a doctorate in modern history from the University of Cambridge and a master’s degree in Russian history from the University of Saskatchewan, as well as a BA in modern languages. On the real-world side, I worked for many years in Europe as a journalist, from beat reporter to business editor, staff researcher and chief editor for several media outlets, and most recently a ten-year stint as a digital journalist at the esteemed BBC.
Between all this, I have found time to write historical novels and raise a family.
Adding it all up, I know the many challenges facing a writer these days, how daunting the prospect of bringing a complex work to a successful and publishable conclusion. It’s a collaborative effort that demands respect and consideration. Editors serve as the right hand for writers, helping them to find their voice using a veritable arsenal of literary tools and a healthy dose of empathy.
